I'm Out!
Yeah so although I will be leaving Skowhegan on Sunday I will be losing access to internet tonight and since I don't have phone, I will be entering the void for a few days and will begin posting again when I arrive in Boston.

Last week in Maine

So I know I haven't been posting but that's because I've been very very busy as things wrap up here. With that being said we had a huge party in the sculpture yard (aka my studio area) and I went to the state fair demolition derby and sailed at night with some people on Zach's homemade boat. The picture is of Moo Kwon Han, Zach, and Julienne.

Fresco is hard
So I've been doing a large scale fresco in the Fresco Barn/Lecture Hall. Fresco is so so very hard to do, half the trouble is just trying to figure out the/a technique. I made all the paints from grinding raw pigments with water over the past two days and then spent today in it's entirety on the scaffolding. I'll take some more photos of it when it's light again tomorrow. If the other Frescos look weird it's because they have been covered in plastic sheeting for protection from me. I am pretty happy with this one as all the other paintings that's I've tried to make here have failed miserably.

SPIDERS!
So I was about to shoot some video and had my tripod all set up was getting ready to go when...I saw some spiders and video taped something way more awesome than what I was about to shoot. It's only about 2 minutes long so you should watch it. The quality may be a little bad as I had to reduce the size to post on the internet. In actuality the video quality it very nice.

more pictures
So I guess it's now a fact that I hate writing on the internet. I'd much rather just keep posting my pictures up if anyone's interested. For instance it'd take me a day to write about what these pictures are from and I just don't have the time to do that while I'm here. So sorry about that and hopefully anyone who checks this blog, which is very small group of people as far as I know, will be satisfied enough despite my lack of written criticism. I guess, like art, it takes a while to get back into writing extensively on any subject. I am kind of swaying towards the whole getting back into the swing of things artistically before I stress over the written context for these images. With that being said I doubt any of these pictures are of "art" but rather just documents from an experience which could act as fodder for art. As far as explaining the experience, I'll just say that I fasted for over 3 days and spent two of those nights venturing into the woods with out a flash light or much of a sense of where I was going. Needless to say the woods in Maine are much more "woodsy" than in Virginia. I didn't really see any moose or anything but as far as I know I could've been standing next to one but since the rain (yes the constant never ceasing rain) and darkness were so intense I'd have never known.

This is art right?
So we get a little cooped up, here in the middle of no where and sometimes it just gets a little strange.
So the theme of the party was "Pre-Historic" I decided that if a robot happens to travel from 1950 to 10,000BC that means the robot would then also be prehistoric. Robots hate dancing!
Look out behind you helpless and weak.
Robots hate dancing!
ROBOT FOOD!

apartment
So Meredith found an apartment for us. Deposits have been paid, paper work is being faxed so it's pretty much ours I would think. I won't entirely trust it though until our stuff is there. So it's in Washington Square in Brookline which is kind of West Boston about ten minutes from MassArt and a bus/train ride from Harvard. I guess Meredith is the one who ended up biting the bullet as far as distance from school goes, but hey she picked it while I was stranded in the woods of Maine. It's a lot bigger than we had imagined though almost the same price of a bunch of terrible basement studios with carpet. So we lucked out some on this one. So yeah I was going to put up some map pictures but it'd be more easy to just google map Boston, Ma and look for Brookline and then find around where Washington street meets up with it. It will probably make more sense once there is stuff in it but until then this should do.

Skowhegan 30
Some quick picks. So I'm busy but here are some photos of the cafeteria area which is one of the better spots on campus. It was Steve's (The Dean/ the guy with the bandanna) birthday and with all birthdays during the summer people sing happy birthday in a unique way specific to the person. Steve is a painter who had at one point painted portraits of people with their tongues out so Charles Gaines Stood up and lead a special sing along. I liked the photos as it kind of captures a sense of the place.
It rains here a lot so this is actually more what it looks like.

Skowhegan 29
So last week a few people from Skowhegan organized a day trip to Wells Maine which is just south of Portland which is about 2 hours away from here. We went to go check out the work of a woman named Barbara who invented the "Lambdoma Matrix" instrument. We had fun and spent the day mainly just trying to get off the campus. I can't tell you what a Lambda Matrix is but I had fun playing it see if you can figure it out here. We also did some harmonic excercise where we stood inside a musical pyramid. So that's what that photo is. Barbara's partner is Richard who is the guy on the Segwey. Though he fell off of it at one point he she enjoyed showing it to us. Unfortunately the battery died so we couldn't try it out. Which was possibly my last chance to ever get on one.

take 2
So the the tech guys say that the internet isn't sick anymore. I will now put that to the test. Im not going to write a lot here because last time I did the internet ruined about 45 minutes worth of typing. Regardless here are some photos of from a fourth of july anarchist parade that I went to in Athens Maine. It very well may be what the post-apocalyptic society will look like. I'm not sure how many people were there but it was a wall of people for about a 3 mile tract of road. Interesting note: This is the principle road in Athens, thus this is pretty much downtown Athens.
There were a lot of ATVs with gun racks that were going to fast for me to get a picture of. I only mention it because I was pretty impressed by it.

blogger is dumb. the internet connection is so slow up here that it times out when uploading photos. basically ill spend all this time putting up pictures and writing about stuff and then it says error and I have to do it all over again. So even though i have some pretty crazy stories and pictures I can't put them up. This is very frustrating.
